Artist's Description
The Black Indian Parade in New Orleans. (Also called Mardi Gras Indian Parade.) Its a colorful tradition that dates back to the days of Slavery. There is a structure & hierarchy to the tribes. They include the Chief, Flag Boy, Spy Boys, Call Boys, Second-liners, and so on. Here we see the Big Chief; the leader Of the Tribe. And around him the Second- Liners. They make the music for the Tribe.
Because of these structures in the Tribe this Tradition went virtually unknown outside the poor, black communities in New Orleans until the 1970's.

About Earth And Spirit
Hi, I'm Jason, the photographer behind Earth And Spirit. In my day-job I'm a Coach. I love to help people find greater freedom in life, and live the kind of life they dream about. Part of my own dream life is to spend as much time as I can on the road, with my camera in hand; just exploring this amazing planet of ours. I spent hours on end in bookshops; discovering the works of photographic giants like Steve McCurry, James Nachtwey, Sabastiao Salgado, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Sam Abell, and Galen Rowell. Freedom, Travel, and experiencing the Sacred are recurring themes that I like to explore in my photographic work. My goal with each photograph is to take you...

Another great shot! I've been out to see the Indians quite a few times and it's a tough subject to capture. You can hear the music in this one! If you're ever back to New Orleans look me up and I'll buy you a cocktail.

Hey Tom! Thanks a lot! It's definitely a tough subject to capture. That's awesome you got to see them in their element as well. I'll definitely look you up next time I'm in down there,
